Tuesday 3 March: the pupils at Charles de Foucauld are eager to welcome their pen pals from the Colegio Sagrada Familia in Burgos. After a long journey, the pupils from Burgos arrive at the school during the midday break – what a buzz in the playground! Everyone wants to see and get to know the Spanish pupils. For the first two hours of the afternoon, the students from Burgos chat with the pupils from Lyon. It’s a bit awkward at first, but little by little everyone loosens up. Throughout the week, the visits come thick and fast: the unusual visit to Fourvière, with its breathtaking view of the whole of Lyon from the top of the basilica; the cinema and miniature museum; a boat trip on the Saône to see the monuments from the river; a guided tour of Lyon: the amphitheatre, the ‘traboules’, the old town, the mural of the people of Lyon… And the most fun part: on Friday we spent the whole day together, Spaniards and French students jumping on the trampolines and playing a treasure hunt. The experience is extraordinary. It’s not always easy to communicate, but we have a great time and learn about other ways of life and other places. A few days later, the French students were welcomed in Burgos.
