Walking for Peace in Chieri

Between 1977 and 1982, the Brothers of the Holy Family of Chieri organised each year the ‘Rally for Peace’, a march that saw a large number of young people from all over the Chieri area join in, and schools and parishes were involved. The initiative, proposed last year as the ‘Walk for Peace’ and proposed again this year on Saturday 14 October, represented Chieri’s chorus in favour of peace. The Chieri parishes, the Santa Teresa Institute, the Salesians, the Chieri Scout groups, the ASCS-Scalabriniana Agency for Development, SERMIG and, of course, Chieri citizens joined in the procession. Participation was good. The participants were welcomed, in the green oasis of the meadows and fields of Villa Brea, by the Sermig orchestra. An applauded concert by the vocal group Free Spirit brightened up the afternoon.
On arrival at Villa Brea short speeches by the mayor and Brother Pierino, followed by entertainment in the meadows and the planting of a symbolic biblical olive tree.
