Finisterre: Zinkers national award

The environmental project promoted by the students of the CPR Nuestra Señora del Carmen de Fisterra, known as Brigada Verde, has been awarded with the Zinkers National Prize in the Secondary category, granted by the Repsol Foundation. This is a recognition of the centre’s commitment to sustainability, circular economy and transformative environmental education. Throughout the school year, the Green Brigade has developed numerous initiatives to raise community awareness about environmental protection. Among its most outstanding actions are the signage of drains with the slogan “Don’t litter, the sea starts HERE”; the creation of wooden posters with environmental awareness messages to raise awareness about the care and protection of beaches and the sea; battery collection campaigns, reuse workshops, reforestation with native species, the launch of the Eco Recuncho second-hand market and many more environmental actions. The award ceremony took place in Madrid, where the teacher in charge of the project, Delia Outes Rey, presented it to the other award-winning schools. This recognition reinforces the importance of educating from early ages in the respect for the planet and shows that, from a small corner like Fisterra, it is also possible to lead big changes. From the CPR Ntra Señora del Carmen of Fisterra they thank all the educational community, the municipalities of Fisterra, Corcubión and Cee, especially their mayors and the collaborating entities for the constant support. This award is an impulse to continue working for a greener and fairer future.
