On 28 January 2020, the official opening of the Holy Family School took place in Kurdeg. This is the first school of the Brothers of the Holy Family in India, as it started in April 2016, in temporary premises of the Kurdeg Parish. The foundation stone of the building was laid two years ago.

The ceremony began with the blessing of the water, then cutting the entrance ribbon, unveiling the commemorative plaque and then sprinkling the building with holy water. Then the celebration of the Eucharist continued with the presence of the Bishop of Simdega, Monsignor Vincent Barwa, the Parish Priest of Kurdeg, Fr. Isidore Kerketta and the Secretary of our Annai Society, the Claretian Father Jini, besides being concelebrated by 18 more priests and a deacon. Brother Efraím González, the Brother Provincial’s Delegate in India, represented the Institute at the opening ceremony of the School. Brothers from different Communities in India attended the ceremony, as well as several religious men and women from the diocese, and some local authorities.

Many people gathered for the ceremony and for the cultural event. All our students participated as well as the parents. The students of the first and second grades of primary school were in charge of initiating the processional dance. The teachers of the school participated especially in the liturgy through the singing, assisted by a group of young people. During the fraternal meal, more than three thousand people were able to taste the delicious food.

At the end of the day, the construction company invited us to dinner, which culminated with the typical tribal dance of Jharkhand.
