“The Lord has been good to me” These words from Psalm 116 were evoked by Br. Michelangelo at the Eucharistic celebration that took place in Ambato on September 27, 2020 to celebrate his golden jubilee. The Eucharist held in the school chapel was presided over by the Bishop of Ambato: Mgr. Jorge Giovanny Pazmiño, who thanked Brother Miguel Ángel for his religious consecration and the service of the Brothers to the diocese of Ambato. In his words, the Brother acknowledged this fidelity and proof of love for him throughout his life, especially in these 50 years, since he made his profession in Salamanca on 30 September 1970.

Almost all these years have been spent as a missionary in Ecuador; some years in difficult social and developmental circumstances such as the ones he spent at the beginning of his arrival in the Vicariate of San Miguel de Sucumbíos, (Lago Agrio) and later in the other works and communities that the Province of Our Lady of the Assumption has at present in Ecuador: Puyo, Guaranda, Ambato and Quito) developing different activities related to education.

Only the Brothers of the Delegation were present at the celebration, due to the situation of the pandemic. At the end of the Eucharist, Brother Fernando, the delegate of the Province in Ecuador, presented him with a plaque of thanks on behalf of all the brothers of the Delegation Ecuador-Colombia, thanking him for this missionary dedication for so many years in this Andean country.  He arrived in Colombia (Mocoa) in 1975 and the following year he went to Ecuador.

After the Eucharist, a festive fraternal meal was held in the dining room of the College, where the bishop also accompanied us. It was a day of celebration in which there was “memory and hope”, as the Pope tells us, of God’s faithfulness and of the faithfulness of our brother Michelangelo. Thank you “Michel” for your life of dedication and testimony of strength and may the Lord grant you much more life.
