On Saturday, 6th March, the 50th anniversary of the Spanish Federation of Mothers and Fathers of the Schools of Sa – Fa España was celebrated in Burgos. It was constituted in Burgos on 6 June 1971, as a union of the Associations of the Schools of Madrid, Barcelona, Gavà and Burgos. Moreover, it has coincided with a very special date for the city of Burgos, as the Cathedral celebrates its 8th Centenary.

The circumstances we are living in at the moment have not allowed us to enjoy this meeting in person, but the closeness that defines the Sa-Fa Family has meant that the distance has only been physical.

Being able to celebrate these 50 years is the result of working as a team and maintaining a close and positive relationship between the families and the school. We all want to follow the same path and we are faithful to our style and educational project, collaborating and helping each other in the education of all students.

This year, the Sa- Fa España prize consisted of writing a text based on the slogan “Turn on your light”. The writing had to focus on this time of pandemic: how do you make your light shine and be a beacon for others. The winning stories were: “Apagón” by student Isabel Muñoz, who is studying 2nd ESO in Burgos and “Un viaje extraordinario” by student Vinyet Cortés, who is studying 1st Bachillerato in Gavá.

We could not fail to thank the Congregation of the Brothers of the Holy Family, they are the example and the light that we must follow to maintain the spirit and the legacy that Brother Gabriel left us. Without them today would not have existed. We also thank the APA of Burgos, who hosted the birth of the Federation and this 50th anniversary meeting, as well as the Community of Brothers and the Management Team.

May next year be a year of reunions and may we, all together, enjoy the wonderful city of Burgos.
