In these times of pandemic, where everything seems desolate and sad, we also find moments for joy and hope. Thus, three Brothers of the Holy Family belonging to the Delegation of India (Province of Our Lady of the Assumption) made their Perpetual Profession on July 1, 2020 in the ‘Gabriel Illam’ Formation House in Madurai. After two intense weeks of Preparation-cum-Retreat, guided by the Brother Delegate of the Provincial, Brothers Rayappa, Leon and Dias felt the need to join the Congregation and live and work in it for the rest of their lives, forever. Even though it was going to be a very familiar and almost “private” ceremony due to the confinement in India, and especially – strictly – in Madurai, the truth is that the community of Madurai, with some aspirants who are with us, got down to work and we tried to solemnize as much as possible the event of the Perpetual Profession, with a great work of decoration and music. The parents of the Brothers, friends, relatives, Brothers’ communities… could not be present, but we made up for it with a celebration in stream (live) so that everyone could follow it in their homes. The ceremony was presided over by Fr. Basil, sj, rector of the Karumathur College, and concelebrated by 4 other priests. The Brother Delegate received the perpetual vows on behalf of the Provincial and the whole Institute. At the end of the ceremony, there were thanksgivings by the 3 Brothers, messages from the Provincial and General, and the typical family photos. The event concluded with a simple family meal with a taste of the delicious “mutton biryani” (Indian paella) from Tamil Nadu.
