History:
   * The remo
te origins of the province are mixed with those of the Institute. During the life of the Founder and later more than 200 houses were founded in France.
   * The evolution of the province of France is linked to different moments of the history of the Institute.
1923 Province of Europe - Province of South America
1947 Province of France-Italy, when Spain was a Vice-Province
1959 Province of France, with the name of "Sacré Coeur," including only the houses located in French territory.
   * In 1939 the General Administration returns from Italy (Villa Brea) to Belley. It would be transferred to Rome in 1970.
   * After the war of 1939-45 formation was carried out in Tessy (aspirancy) and in Belley (novitiate). As those entering the novitiate diminished in number a new ministry of vocation promotion was begun in connection with the dioceses of Belley and Annecy, but with scant results.
   * Even though there were some new undertakings (Miribel-les-Echelles in 1950, Lyon in 1954, Chavanod in 1964) the lack of brothers obliged the Province to close various houses (the last ones would be in 1989: la Trinité, in Paris, and Entre-deux-Guiers, in Isère).
   * 1981: The Brothers occupy a new house in Belley, in rue Savoie n. 33.

The Present:
The Brothers wish to be an active presence in the local Church by their witness of consecrated life and by their activities in Christian education, in pastoral work and in social service.

* Belley Founded in 1840 Belley is the provincial house and retreat house. Some brothers participate in diocesan activities and pastoral work. They maintain a presence in the "Maison Gabriel Taborin," receiving people and groups that want to know our venerable Founder.
* Ars Founded in 1849 The Brothers are part of the team for animation of the Sanctuary; they work in the parish and in welcoming pilgrims.
* Dagneux: Ffunded in 1899 The Brothers maintained a presence from 1899 to 1999 in the Institute Saint Louis: a school and collége with a contract with the State and under the direction of the HF Brs. Pastoral activities.
* Tessy Founded in 1928 Teaching activities and parish pastoral work. Service to the Province.
* Lyon Founded in 1954 Educational center "Charles de Foucauld" (school, collége and lycée).

The Future:
   * To be a brother is a mission, more than a title: to deepen our identity by means of formation and a better understanding of the Founder. Propose our vocation to others.
   * To live a prophetic religious life showing the joy of our consecration to God and to people in creative fidelity to our commitments.
   * To move toward a fraternal, joyful and enthusiastic religious life, that sinks its roots in a deep relationship with God.
   * To maintain our commitments in co-responsibility with the laity and with priests; to offer our voluntary service, made possible by retirement, in some ecclesial structure (parish, movements, services, school ...) in service to the young and to the poor.
